Park & Recretaion Master Plan, Canton, CT Nafis and Young Engineers, Inc. (NYE) recently completed a comprehensive Parks and Recreation Master Plan for The Town of Canton. This Master Plan included an inventory of all existing fields and recreation facilities, analysis of the activities of numerous use groups, future growth projections for these groups, determination of need for additional recreation facilities and development of a comprehensive Capital Improvement Program to meet the recreational needs of the community through the year 2005. Specific elements completed by NYE included evaluation of the existing conditions of all the Town's parks, playgrounds and ball fields. Recommendations regarding maintenance items, reseeding and overseeding procedures, safety improvements and ADA improvements were made at each individual site. NYE also developed specific recommendations for several unused town-owned parcels for development of new ball fields, running track, cross-country trail, basketball courts and multi-purpose athletic facilities. The final product for this project was a detailed report that itemized the strengths and weaknesses of all of the town's existing recreational facilities, as well as an overall development plan that prioritized the construction of new facilities to meet the growing needs of the community.
